How does one quantify humanities education on democracy? This is the task before Andrew Perrin, Professor of Sociology. Perrin is a Faculty Fellow (2007) and Academic Leadership Fellow (2010). NEH Summer Stipends support individuals working full-time on a humanities project at any stage of development by providing funding for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Faculty members teaching full-time at colleges and universities must be nominated by their institutions to apply for a summer stipend.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is one of 28 universities taking part in a major national initiative to transform graduate education in the humanities.
Institute for the Arts and Humanities Director Mark Katz worked with colleagues from across the university to propose “Re-envisioning the Humanities PhD,” a year-long campus-wide conversation on graduate education in the humanities, which will be funded by a $25,000 National Endowment for the Humanities planning grant and matched by UNC.
