[Now Closed] Call for Proposals: Faculty Fellowship Program, 2024-2025

The Institute for the Arts and Humanities is now accepting applications for the Faculty Fellowship Program, a semester-long, residential fellowship to work on projects for publication, exhibition, composition, or performance. Applicants will be considered for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Faculty Fellowship Program centers on a weekly two-and-a-half-hour seminar at Hyde Hall where Fellows exchange ideas with eight to 10 peers from various disciplines over a shared meal. The weekly seminar is facilitated by a faculty member and alumni of the program. Each fellowship comes with a $5,000 flexible use stipend. Applications are due on Oct. 9, 2023.
Since 2020-21, the Institute has awarded additional Faculty Fellowships through the Race, Memory, and Reckoning Initiative for faculty projects focused on race, memory, inequality, and related areas. Applicants who believe that their projects fit the objectives of the Race, Memory, and Reckoning Initiative are invited to include a brief Race and Reckoning interest statement in their applications to be considered for support from this initiative.
Who may apply?
- Faculty with a primary appointment in the College of Arts and Sciences in tenure-track positions of all ranks in or beyond their second year at UNC-Chapel Hill are eligible to apply.
- Fixed term faculty in or beyond their fourth year are also eligible if they will be returning to their department the semester following their fellowship.
- We encourage applications from faculty at all ranks.
- Past Fellows may apply for an IAH Fellowship five or more years after their previous award.
- The Institute seeks a blend of ranks and disciplines for each class of Fellows.
- Due to the number of applications received, preference may be given to applicants who have not previously received a fellowship.
- Joint proposals from two faculty members are accepted.
What are the requirements of the fellowship?
- Weekly attendance at the lunchtime seminar.
- A presentation on your research project.
- A willingness to contribute to future fellowship proposal workshops hosted by the IAH.
Are there any reporting requirements?
Each IAH Faculty Fellow receives a named fellowship. At the end of the fellowship semester, Fellows are expected to submit a stewardship letter addressed to the donor or the donor’s family. The IAH collects these letters and distributes them to each corresponding donor as part of their stewardship. This stewardship process helps to engage donors who care deeply about faculty support and success at UNC, and it assists the IAH in securing future and ongoing support for faculty programs and fellowships.

When will I be notified of a decision?
After a rigorous two-round review process conducted by the Faculty Fellowship selection committee, a subset of the IAH Faculty Advisory Board, applicants will be notified of their status as a recipient, alternate, or otherwise by February 1, 2024.
