Due 4/29/24: Call for Applications: Director, Associate Professor Program

April 3, 2024 | Kristen Chavez

DEADLINE: APRIL 29, 2024

The Institute for the Arts and Humanities invites applications for the Director of the Associate Professor Program.

Throughout academia and across disciplines, newly tenured and promoted professors face unique professional and personal challenges. The Associate Professor Program is designed to support them as they enter this transitional period. All College faculty are invited to participate in the program in the first year following their promotion to associate professor.

The Director of the APP sets agendas, schedules meetings, crafts topics for sessions, and brings in guest speakers as needed. The Director designs the flow of the program and ensures topics are vital and relevant to the needs of newly tenured faculty. The program typically consists of one to two lunch sessions in Hyde Hall each semester with invited speakers who address specific topics of interest to the group (e.g., the full professor promotion process, connecting with Senior Associate Deans, work/life balance) and one to two dinner sessions per semester (at a local restaurant) during which the group has extended discussions about challenges, opportunities, and strategies related to their newly tenured role.

Term: The length of the term is three years starting July 1, 2024, with the possibility of renewal.

Compensation: The appointment includes a $5,000 annual flexible use research stipend.

Eligibility: Interested applicants must be faculty at the rank of full professor.

To apply: Please submit your CV and a 500-word statement of purpose to iah@unc.edu as separate PDF attachments.

For the statement of purpose please include:

  • Reason for interest in directing the program
  • Strengths that you would provide to the program
  • How you plan to build community in the cohort
  • How you plan to infuse equity and inclusion work into the program

Applications are due Monday, April 29, 2024.

Reach out to Patricia Parker (psparker@email.unc.edu) or Silas Webb (slwebb@email.unc.edu) with any questions.
