Watch IAH Zoom Talks: Neil Prose, M.D.

May 12, 2020 |

Dr. Neil Prose and Keepers of the House

Neil Prose, M.D., is a professor of Dermatology, Pediatrics and Global Health at Duke University. Dr. Prose’s primary area of clinical interest is pediatric dermatology. His main area of academic interest is provider-patient communication. He is actively involved in developing new models for teaching empathic communication skills to medical students, nurses, midwives, and doctors in low and middle-income countries.

Dr. Prose will be discussing Keepers of the Housea documentary on Duke Health housekeepers. Every day of the week, environmental service workers enter hospital patients’ rooms to clean. Their work may bring a measure of dignity and connection to people who are sick, vulnerable, and away from their familiar homes. Because these workers are assigned to the same specific areas of the hospital, they often develop meaningful relationships with patients and their families. In this 15-minute documentary video, eight housekeepers at Duke Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital talk about their special human relationships with patients and the ways in which they believe their work contributes to healing.
