It began when UNC music professor and jazz studies director Jim Ketch became the first faculty fellow in 1992, thanks to an endowment by David Pardue ’69 and his wife Becky. Back then, the Institute was called the Program for the Arts and the Humanities, located at the former West House between Hanes and Swain Halls.
