Torin Monahan, Professor of Communication and IAH Faculty Fellow, writes about themes he has been exploring in his current project on art, race, and surveillance.

We address four questions currently being tackled by professors at UNC-Chapel Hill, who are also Faculty Fellows at the Institute for the Arts and Humanities. Their investigations also put the African American and African Diasporic experience at their center, greatly expanding the fields of study that their research represents.

Faculty fellows who are currently tenured members of the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill are eligible to apply for the position. The Director of the Faculty Fellows Program receives $10,000 in research funds.

In one of the graduate-level courses Professor Nichola Lowe teaches, one starts with a real-life issue to solve: how to provide education for a manufacturing worker named Maddie. Lowe uses the story from an Atlantic essay that discusses labor to prime her students to think outside typical paths to education that may not be possible for working-class workers.
