Supplemental Materials Guidelines for the Faculty Fellowship Program

March 16, 2017 | M. Clay

Supplemental materials are required for the Faculty Fellowship Program application process. Please review the fellowship requirements and find a link to the online application at the Faculty Fellowship Program page.

Please upload the following supplemental materials as necessary. More information on each component is available below:

Applicant Research Profile

Your application should include a brief profile, no more than 250 words.

Project Proposal

Your project statement should state explicitly how you would like to spend the fellowship period.

Formatting Guidelines:
The proposal should be no more than 4 pages, formatted with double-spaced paragraphs and Times New Roman font, size 12. Failure to submit your application according to these standards may result in disqualification of your application.

What to Include in Your Proposal:

Explain clearly how you would like to spend the fellowship period. Failure to meet this requirement may result in disqualification of your proposal.

Avoid the temptation to write a literature review: The selection committee is less interested in previous work in your field than in what your work is and how you will contribute to understanding a specific question or problem. For example, what larger social, historical, literary, or artistic issue does your project address?

Situate this project in a larger narrative of your career: What are your scholarly/intellectual interests? How does this project fit (or not) within your previous work and your field?

Remember that your application will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary faculty committee. You will want to write for a well-educated but broad general audience, avoiding highly specialized language and jargon if possible. Engage your readers!

In writing your statement, keep in mind the major selection criteria:

  • Significance: Demonstrate the potential impact of your work.
  • Project Design: Does your project address all relevant issues in a form that offers a coherent engagement with your research topic?
  • Feasibility: Can you demonstrate that you will be able to make significant progress during your fellowship towards the timely completion of your scholarly project?
  • Qualifications: What past work has led you to take up this specific project at this point in your career?

Curriculum Vitae

Upload an abbreviated curriculum vitae of no more than five pages, updated to the September of the application year.

Department Chair Recommendation

Endorsement from the Department Chair is required for all fellowship applicants.

No form is required for Faculty Fellowship applicants. By entering the name of your department chairperson on the online application, you certify that he/she endorses your candidacy.
