Arts and Humanities Grant for Research Diversity
This grant supports research, professional development, and creative activities that promote research diversity.
UNC System Policy defines “diversity” as “the ways in which individuals vary, including, but not limited to, backgrounds, beliefs, viewpoints, abilities, cultures, and traditions that distinguish one individual or group from another.” Funds are for arts- and humanities-related endeavors that advance research diversity and are available through the end of the following fiscal year.

Award amounts vary, with a maximum amount of $2,500.
Application Process
The application cycle is currently open. Applications are due Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.
Faculty should complete an application in Interfolio, which includes:
- A description of the nature of your grant request and how it will benefit your scholarship or professional development and promote research diversity (750 words).
- Current CV
- Proposed budget
Applicants will receive a notification within four weeks of the deadline.
Eligibility
Faculty holding a tenure-stream or full-time fixed-term position (1.0 FTE) at any rank and from any unit at UNC-Chapel Hill are welcome to apply. Fixed-term faculty must have at least one year of service at the University and hold contracts that extend at least through the end of the fiscal year following the grant period. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received this grant.
Funding Guidelines
Expenditures must be in compliance with the general policies of the university. All expenditures should be made after the grant is awarded and the funds are transferred to the awardee’s department.
Funds awarded in the 2024-2025 academic year will expire on June 30, 2026.
Appropriate uses of funding
Research-related travel, conferences or other professional development activities; work equipment; grad/student/research/creative assistants; research/artistic materials/books; and food for research-related seminars and workshops.
Inappropriate uses of funding
Personal use; course/teaching development; regular or base salary; summer salary; or any related administrative supplements.
Reporting requirement
Publication of the results of a research project or a program/catalog/other promotional material for a public or artistic project should include an acknowledgment of funding from the Institute for the Arts and Humanities. A one-page summary of the awardee’s project, general expenditures, and the work enabled by this assistance should be submitted to the IAH at the end of the funding period.
