At This Place: History, Race, and A Way Forward – Universities Studying Slavery Conference

The University Commission on History, Race, and A Way Forward will host the Universities Studying Slavery Conference in Chapel Hill on March 15-18. IAH Director, Patricia Parker co-chairs the commission, along with history professor, Jim Leloudis (Fellowship year?).

Registration is open until March 3. Registration is free and open to community members, scholars, and students.

Commission co-chairs Parker and Leloudis will deliver the opening plenary remarks, “History, Race, and Reckoning at UNC” on Thursday, March 16 at 9:00 a.m.

The conference offers opportunities to learn from one another, share tools and resources, and advance the promise of reckoning and repair. Please join to explore the ways that academic institutions and descendant communities are partnering to create just and equitable futures.

Universities Studying Slavery is an international consortium of over 90 intuitions of higher learning that are focused on sharing best practices and guiding principles as they engage in truth-telling educational projects focused on human bondage and the legacies of racism in their histories.
