Mai Thi Nguyen, associate professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning and director of the Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program at UNC-Chapel Hill, has been named as director of the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) beginning July 1, 2020.

Dr. Nguyen teaches in the Housing and Community Development specialization. Her research is inspired by the goal of creating equitable and resilient communities. She is an urban planner who seeks to improve the lives of vulnerable and underserved populations. She is passionate about how we can harness urban planning and public policy to create a better future for the next generation.

Dr. Nguyen has recently been appointed the MURAP Program Director. She is currently the Chairperson of the Urban Affairs Association Governing Board, and is the founder and moderator of Planners 2040, a Facebook discussion group that engages urban planning scholars globally in a lively discussion on innovative teaching and research topics.
