Opportunity Funding

The IAH’s Schwab Opportunity Fund makes approximately $10,000 a year available to support projects that include at least two IAH Fellows.

Grants of up to $5,000 support sustainable ongoing faculty projects and provide start-up funds for new projects. Schwab funds typically are not used to bring in a major speaker or fund other one-time events. The IAH has other funds to support these types of activities.

Schwab funds have been used to support:

  • A series of meetings by a faculty group to explore different models of engaged scholarship
  • A group of faculty that explored the possibility of initiating a new degree in an arts and humanities discipline
  • A group of Fellows who wanted to continue meeting as a writing group after their semester at the IAH ended

Application

Applications for funding are accepted at any time during the academic year. Send requests to the IAH director or executive director of the Institute with:

  • Description of the project and its goals
  • List of faculty members involved
  • Overall project budget
  • Amount requested from the IAH (maximum $5,000)

Funding decisions are made by the director and executive director in consultation with the Faculty Advisory Board.

Reporting

Faculty groups that receive Schwab funds are required to report at the end of the academic year how the money was used.
