Associate Professor Program Lunch: Resilience Workshop
September 29, 2015 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Resilience and the Academic Life
Resilience, defined as the capacity to be resourceful and creative, to make choices, and to take effective action no matter what is going on (Silsbee 2015), is an essential quality for busy faculty members in the post-tenure stages of their careers. The willingness to explore one’s perspective, mindset, awareness, and health enables constructive responses to stress and setback.
The workshop will be led by Rob Kramer, Senior Leadership Consultant for the Institute for the Arts and Humanities and co-facilitator of the Academic Leadership Program and the Chairs Leadership Program. Drawing upon seventeen years’ experiences teaching, consulting and coaching UNC faculty and administrators, Rob will outline the core elements of resilience in this session. He will also pose reflective questions to help participants identify specific resilience building strategies for themselves, particularly within an academic setting.
