Professor of Rhetorical Studies in the Department of Communication Bill Balthrop joined the IAH team as Chairs Leadership Program Director at the genesis of the initiative in 2008.
“The departmental chair’s position is one of the most critical academic leadership positions in the College,” says Balthrop. “An ongoing, professional network, in which knowledge and experience can be shared with candor, is an important additional support system for new and continuing chairs.”
Balthrop’s professional interests focus on the interactions between rhetoric, argument and cultural practice. He is a former President of the National Communication Association and former President of the American Forensic Association. He received his BA at Wichita State University; he received his MA and PhD at University of Kansas.
