Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Series Presents Clifford Owens

Hanes Visiting Artist Clifford Owens will be in residence at UNC Nov. 2-13, 2009. During his visit, Owens will exhibit his work, deliver a lecture and perform as part of the UNC Process Series. This event is tied to the Institute's digital arts and humanities festival, CHAT.

Clifford Owens will visit UNC Nov. 2-13, 2009, to take part in a series of events including an exhibition, lecture and performance:

Nov. 3 through Dec. 2, 2009: An Exhibition of Clifford Owens’s Work
The John and June Allcott Gallery, Hanes Art Center, UNC Department of Art

Nov. 3, 5:30-8 p.m., Public Lecture with Clifford Owens, Hanes Arts Center Auditorium (room 121)
Owens's lecture will be followed by an opening reception for his exhibition at The John and June Alcott Gallery in the Hanes Art Center

Nov. 6-7, 8 p.m. “Photographs with an Audience” by visiting artist Clifford Owens, Gerrard Hall
An inventive performance that uses the audience and performance as subject matter for the creation of photographic works

Owens's visit is part of the Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Series. He will visit UNC again in February 2010 to take part in the Institute's digital arts and humanities festival, CHAT, as part of John Bowles's Internet Archive of African-American Performance Art project.

The Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Series is supported by the Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Endowment; the Alumni Sculpture Garden Endowment and the John and June Allcott Endowment; UNC department of art; the Institute for the Arts and Humanities' festival, Collaborations: Humanities, Arts & Technology (CHAT); and the Process Series at Gerrard Hall, sponsored by UNC’s Office of the Executive Director for the Arts and StreetSigns Center for Literature and Performance.
