The Faculty Advisory Board of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities will again serve as the nominations committee for the Summer Stipend Program of the National Endowment for the Humanities.  Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two members of its faculty for the Summer Stipend competition.  Each can be either a junior or a senior faculty member.  NEH defines junior nominees as academic applicants at the rank of assistant professor or instructor or who are at comparably early stages of their careers.  Those holding the rank of associate professor or professor will be considered senior nominees.

The information about the stipend and the application materials may be found here.

The deadline for applications to be turned in to the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, Hyde Hall, is Wednesday, September 3, 2008.  After all applications are reviewed by the selection committee, the two nominees from UNC-CH will be notified in time to send their applications online directly to NEH by the October 1 deadline.  Those writing letters of recommendation for the two nominees will also be notified by NEH to send their letters directly online to NEH.

Please read the instructions carefully before bringing an original and 4 copies of the application to the Institute for the Arts and Humanities.  If you intend to apply, please contact Ms. Martha Marks (843-2651) before bringing your application to Hyde Hall.

UNC faculty members who have been awarded NEH Summer Stipends for the summer of 2008 are Professor Annegret Fauser, Department of Music, and Adjunct Professor Lorraine Aragon, Department of Anthropology.
