Deadline for 2009 C. Felix Harvey Award Proposals

Requests for proposals are due September 25, 2009, for The C. Felix Harvey Award to Advance Institutional Priorities 2009: Applied Innovation of Scholarly Expertise in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The award is sponsored through the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.

The C. Felix Harvey Award to Advance Institutional Priorities 2009: 
Applied Innovation of Scholarly Expertise in the Humanities and Social Sciences

The C. Felix Harvey Award will be given to the faculty member or members whose project proposal best reflects “Applied Innovation of Scholarly Expertise in the Humanities and Social Sciences” through the creative and substantive application of faculty scholarship to serve constituencies outside the University. 

To provide broad consideration across the eligible disciplines, projects should focus on at least one of the following themes:

  • Technology
  • Economic Development
  • Arts and Culture
  • Improvement of K-12 Public Education

Award:  One award of $75,000 will be given to support a project of up to 15 months that may commence as early as June 1, 2010, and must conclude by August 31, 2011.

Eligibility:  All UNC-Chapel Hill full- or part-time faculty (excluding adjuncts) in the humanities and social sciences are eligible to apply.

Deadline: Each award application, narrative and budget must be submitted electronically (PDF format or MSWord) to HarveyAward@unc.edu by September 25, 2009.

Application Review: Applications will be reviewed by the Harvey Awards Committee, consisting of the Chancellor, the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, and two members of the Harvey family.  Three finalists will be selected to make presentations to the Committee in November, and outcomes will be communicated no later than December 1, 2009.
