The Institute for the Arts and Humanities is offering outstanding faculty who regularly teach undergraduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill a unique opportunity: a semester-long, on-campus fellowship to work on projects for publication, exhibition, composition or performance.

The fellowship centers on a weekly three-hour seminar at Hyde Hall where Fellows exchange ideas with eight to 12 peers from various disciplines. Faculty may apply for either the fall or spring semester. Faculty who previously held any fellowship at the IAH may apply again, but only in the fifth year after any previous fellowship at the Institute for the Arts and Humanities.

For details, visit our Chapman Family Faculty Fellowships Web page.

Projects: The IAH is interested in a variety of projects: outreach, internships or fieldwork related to your teaching or research; a reading program to revitalize a field of your teaching; research; or performance or exhibition in the fine arts. The Chapman Family Faculty Fellowship includes a stipend of $5,000 that the Fellow may use to support teaching, research and service activities.

Eligibility: Applicants must have been at UNC-CH for at least three full years of teaching, long enough to establish a record of distinguished teaching at UNC-CH. Faculty in all units of the University may apply for a Chapman Fellowship if they regularly teach undergraduate courses. In addition to project proposals, Chapman applicants must submit supporting materials about their teaching and may be interviewed and/or observed (with advance notification) by members of the selection committee.

Additional Information

Fellows must attend weekly seminar meetings during the semester of their leave.  IAH fellowships are a key part of the College of Arts and Sciences’ efforts to retain the best faculty at Carolina.
