Vision
In the next five years, the Institute for the Arts and Humanities aims to build upon the achievements of the Institute since its founding two decades ago, and upon the vision for its future laid out in a series of planning sessions in 2004-2006.
Through its programs, the IAH of 2013 will serve the needs of faculty at every stage in their careers and play a key supporting role in faculty retention, especially in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Based on the solid foundation of its two signature programs, the Faculty Fellowship Program and the Academic Leadership Program, the IAH will strive to make Hyde Hall the faculty’s home at UNC.
The IAH will strengthen the frequency, quality and impact of collaboration among faculty, and will seek foundation support for innovative work in the arts and humanities.
The IAH will also provide opportunities for IAH Fellows and visiting scholars to reach on- and off-campus audiences, communicating the spirit of the liberal arts to UNC’s many publics.
At the same time, the IAH will continue its work to help identify
and develop campus leaders from among the faculty.
Through its development of collegial relationships in its core programs
and its support for cutting-edge research and teaching, the IAH will
provide a place for the vibrant conversations that create intellectual
community and make Carolina the best place in the nation for faculty to
be.
